The Business Times was launched in 1976, the year that Singapore started its development as a regional financial center. It is a member of the Singapore Press Holdings group.
The Business Times is South-east Asia's leading business daily, bringing to its readers a daily comprehensive package of economic, corporate, financial and political news, analysis and commentary.
The focus of BT is on Singapore and Asian news and trends. Yet, world developments are also covered since Singapore's business interests are global.
In 1995, The Business Times was the first English-language newspaper in Asia to be available on the World Wide Web. During the day, the site is constantly updated with breaking news on the front page.
Since 2000, each new edition of BTO can be viewed online at 4am Singapore time. In order to read the stories, you must be either a print or online subscriber. However, free access to the entire site is available at 6pm.
The entire BT Stocks section is free, including My Stocks and My Portfolio. My Stocks presents the day's most recent transactions on the Singapore Exchange. My Portfolio calculates the overall stock-buying cost and the expected gains or losses for each stock.
Stories from weekly sections, such as Executive Money, Weekend BT, Executive Lifestyle, etc. remain online until they are updated the following week.
